Join LMU Munich as a Bioinformatics Postdoc / Research Software Engineer
Work on multi-omics, scRNA-seq, and HPC infrastructure for brain research. Apply by September 15, 2026.
Where Data Science Meets the Brain
At the Biomedical Center (BMC) of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich, we are decoding the molecular mechanisms of brain cell function, aging, and neurodegenerative diseases.
Our newly established Neuroepigenetics and Data Science Group is looking for a visionary Bioinformatics / Research Software Engineer who understands that robust infrastructure and elegant code are the foundations of scientific breakthroughs.
This is not a standard IT role. This is a research position where your algorithms and server architectures will directly enable the discovery of how epigenetics shapes the brain.
The Role – Bridging Research & Infrastructure
You will wear two equally important hats. First, you will develop and apply novel computational methods for next-generation sequencing and single-cell multi-omics data. Second, you will be the steward of our computational ecosystem—designing, maintaining, and optimizing the HPC, storage, and server infrastructure that processes massive imaging and sequencing datasets.
Research & Development
- Develop robust bioinformatics workflows for NGS data using Nextflow/Snakemake.
- Create novel methods for integrating multi-omics (genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic).
- Perform advanced exploratory analysis (scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, WGBS).
- Contribute to high-impact scientific publications.
Infrastructure & Engineering
- Provide user support and strategic planning for IT infrastructure.
- Manage and optimize servers, backups, and HPC resources.
- Ensure seamless operation for data-intensive biomedical research.
